What is the National Construction Code (NCC)?

Welcome to our "Building Design Services" Blog where our aim is to help you gain a better understanding of the planning approval process.

We are based on the Central Coast, NSW, and help locals with the daunting task of preparing building plans & documentation to submit to the relevant Certifying Authority.

The National Construction Code is made up of 3 Volumes: (Vol 1,2 &3)

The BCA is made up of 2 Volumes (Vol 1 & 2)

·      Volume 1 - Building Code of Australia (BCA) - Class 2 – 9 Buildings

(latest version includes Livable Housing Provisions)

·      Volume 2 - Building Code (BCA) - Class 1 & 10 Buildings

·      Volume 3  - Plumbing Code

The class of Building needs to be determined, and the appropriate Building Code applied to the structures.

The goal of the BCA is to enable the achievement of nationally consistent, minimum necessary standards of relevant health, safety, amenity and sustainability objectives. The BCA is revised every 3 years. The current BCA version is 2022  (at the time this blog was being published).

Among other criteria, it is the Building Designers role to seek compliance with State and Local Planning Controls as well as the relevant Building Codes.
