Do I need an Architect to draw a Building Plan?

Welcome to our "Building Design Services" Blog where our aim is to help you gain a better understanding of the planning approval process.

We are based on the Central Coast, NSW, and help locals with the daunting task of preparing building plans & documentation to submit to the relevant Certifying Authority.

You can use an Architect or a Building Designer to design a building.

If the Building is a Class 2, 3 or 9c, the Architect or Building Designer will also need to be registered as a Design Practitioner with NSW Fair Trade.

Building Designers are generally limited to designing 2 storey buildings, however, if the building is on a slope and the building has multiple levels, but does note exceed 2 storeys at any given point, a Building Designer could still prepare the plans. Attics and Basements could also be included in this design provided all the relevant criteria is met.
